Members Exercise Winter Mission Skills
Close to 70 South Dakota Wing members exercised their winter operational mission skills on Saturday January 14.
The training was conducted in five operational locations across the state, managed by a consolidated incident command team from locations around the state by Microsft Teams.
One training sortie was finding a simulated missing person in the snow. Another looked for lost cattle supposedly not accounted for following the recent storms.
Members also rehearsed radio use, running a safe mission, and operating sUAVs (drones) for Search and Rescue or Damage Assessment.
“Supporting local, state, tribal, and federal agencies with air and ground operational missions is the cornerstone of Civil Air Patrol’s public service in 2023,” said Col. Michael Marek, South Dakota Wing commander. “It takes continual effort to ensure we are trained to CAP’s national standards. Exercises like this are a key part of that professionalism.”
