South Dakota Wing’s Lookout Mountain Composite Squadron (LMCS) spent much of this year competing in the CAP National AE High-Altitude Balloon Challenge for Cadets. The program asked cadet teams to submit experiments to be carried on balloons to almost 20 miles above the Earth.

LMCS cadets developed an experiment to test the protection provided by various strengths of sunscreen to high-altitude radiation. Each team was asked to submit four categories of end product deliverables: mission patch; a pre-launch video; the science experiment slide; and a final documentary video.

The final LMCS video is here (using a Star Trek setting to introduce the project).

The teams were provided exact expectations and guidance via the individual category scoring rubrics (located in the shaded box below).  Thus, when their submissions were scored, there was strict adherence to the rubrics.
