Kansas Wing Cadet Achieves Spaatz Award

Cadet Jonathan Spoula of the Lawrence Composite Squadron is Kansas Wing's 21st recipient of the Gen. Carl A. Spaatz Award. The Gen. Carl A. Spaatz award is Civil Air Patrol's highest cadet award, earned only by 1% of CAP cadets. Cadet Spoula is Civil Air Patrol's 2,455th recipient of the award.
To achieve the Spaatz award, Cadet Colonel Spoula completed a leadership exam, aerospace exam, the Air Force Academy's candidate physical fitness test, and an essay testing his moral reasoning. Upon passing all four parts of the process, Cadet Spoula was promoted to the grade of Cadet Colonel and awarded the Gen. Carl A. Spaatz award.
Cadet Col. Spoula joined Civil Air Patrol in November 2017 and has been an active participant of the Lawrence Composite Squadron since his first day. Spoula has held many positions while in CAP, including Squadron Cadet Commander, Wing Cadet Advisory Council representative, Region Cadet Advisory Council assistant representative, and most recently the Kansas Wing Encampment Cadet Commander. Spoula has been awarded three Wing Commander's Commendations and three Achievement Awards. Spoula has attended seven Encampments, region Cadet leadership school, and is a graduate of the Air Force Pararescue and Survival Orientation Course (PJOC). He recently graduated from Lawrence High School, and will be attending the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
On behalf of all Kansas Wing volunteers, we congratulate Cadet Colonel Spoula on his amazing accomplishment!
