McClanahan Selected as New Iowa Wing Commander

McClanahan selected as new Commander for Iowa Wing!

Lt. Col. Michael “Sean" McClanahan, Iowa Wing Chief of Staff, has been selected as the incoming commander for Iowa Wing , replacing Col. Jonathan Lartigue on 1 June 2024
Lt. Col. McClanahan joined Civil Air Patrol 19 February 2014, as a Delaware Wing member.  He served as Government Relations Officer and Commander of the Delaware Legislative Squadron from 19 June 2018 to 30 Nov 2021.  Additionally, he filled many positions in the Delaware Wing and it’s squadrons, to include Emergency Services Officer, Director of Operations, Director of Logistics, Director of IT, and Director of Communications.
He transferred to Iowa Wing 31 Dec 2021, and currently holds the staff positions of Director of Logistics, Director of Communications, and Chief of Staff for the Wing.
In addition to his Civil Air Patrol activities, Lt. Col. McClanahan has a record of public service in the civilian sector. He has a history of volunteer firefighting, and received the accolade of Firefighter of the Year in 1984 in Dunn Loring Volunteer Fire Department in Fairfax County, Virginia.  He was also qualified as an Emergency Medical Technician while in that department.
He is currently listed as the Emergency Coordinator for Greene County, Iowa.
He is licensed as an Advanced Class Amateur Radio Operator, and serves as the Amateur Radio Emergency Coordinator for Greene County, Iowa. He applies these skills in his duties in Civil Air Patrol Communications. 
He has multiple qualification as an IT professional, with 15+ years experience in network administration, security, and compliance.
