Minnesota Wing Offers Squadron Commander Course
On Saturday, 24 February 2024, 16 senior members attended an in-person Squadron Commander Course at the Minnesota Wing Hanger Training Room.
The course does two things, first it alerts participants to the issues and jobs that can leave them and CAP the most vulnerable: financial issues, logistical issues, discrimination, and cadet protection. Lack of attention to these issues has led to various kinds of administrative action by the Air Force, criminal prosecution, and civil liability for its members, including its commanders. As squadron commander, participants are primary in dealing with these key issues; and need to know where to look for help. Second, it also reminds participants of the moral and ethical obligations they have as squadron commander to do the best job they can for the right reasons. It introduces Core Values, the basic social mores CAP expects members to uphold. But more importantly, it shows participants the basic expectations of command at the conceptual level: the end points - mission and people.
Special thanks to C/2d Lt. Allie Sigmond of Fort Snelling Cadet Squadron and C/Capt. Arjav Krishna of Viking Composite Squadron for lending their expertise on “Customs, Courtesies and Ceremonies” and the “Cadet Advisory Council” sections.
