North Central Region Memorial Day Events

June 25, 2023

North Central Region members and units participated in local community Memorial Day activities across all seven wings. 

Iowa Wing

  • Members of the Des Moines Composite Squadron and Ames Flight participated as color guards in the Ames Patriotic Ceremony and Memorial Day Parade in Ames, IA.
  • Southwest Iowa Composite Squadron members assisted the American Legion Post in Harlan, IA, in setting up, taking down, and folding flags for the Harlan Cemetery’s Memorial Day event. Video link: www.facebook.com/CAPIA003/videos/1472130720192741

Minnesota Wing

  • Duluth Composite Squadron’s color guard presented the colors at Sunrise Funeral Home & Cemetery in Hermantown, MN, and got to meet U.S. Congressman Pete Stauber.
  • Members of the Ft. Snelling Cadet Squadron and St. Paul Composite Squadron worked together to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
  • The Southeast Minnesota Composite Squadron color guard and members participated in the Rochester, MN, Memorial Day Parade.
  • St. Cloud Composite Squadron’s color guard participated in the annual Parade of Flags at Camp Ripley, MN.
  • St. Croix Composite Squadron members Lt. Col. David Yost and Capt. Brian Alwin performed a flyover as part of the Union Cemetery’s Memorial Day Celebration closing ceremony in Maplewood, MN.

Missouri Wing

  • Cadets from the Table Rock Lake Composite Squadron placed flag-holders and flags at McCullough Cemetery in Lampe, MO.
  • Excelsior Springs Composite Squadron members worked with a local Elks Lodge to place flags at veterans’ graves at three local cemeteries.
  • Cadets from the Col. Travis Hoover Composite Squadron participated in two flag-raising ceremonies at the McCune Cemetery near Joplin, MO.
  • Members of the Platte Valley Composite Squadron participated in Terrace Park Funeral Home and Cemetery’s Memorial Day Commemoration.
  • Members of the Trail of Tears Composite Squadron and their families joined volunteers from their community to help set-up flags for the local Avenue of Flags.

Nebraska Wing

  • The Fremont Cadet Squadron color guard and members participated in a flag-folding ceremony and raised a new flag to replace a weathered flag at Arbor Care Centers – Valhaven, then attended the ceremony at Fremont Veterans Park, and then participated in a flag-lowering ceremony later in the day at Logan Cemetery.

North Dakota Wing

  • James Valley Composite Squadron’s Cadets Tweeton and Salazar assisted with the Memorial Day flag raising at Ft. Seward in Jamestown, ND.

South Dakota Wing

  • Members of the Lincoln County Squadron members and Sioux Falls Squadron paid honors to fallen veterans at Hills of Rest Cemetery by placing flags on veterans' graves.
