Passing of Minnesota Wing Member
In Memoriam: Maj. Randall Knox
North Central Region saddened to learn of the passing of Maj. Randall Knox of Minnesota Wing's Stanton Composite Squadron at the age of 79.
As a founding member, Maj Knox was instrumental in the squadron's early success and served in numerous leadership roles, including Minnesota Wing public affairs officer, as well as Stanton’s public affairs officer, character development instructor, deputy commander for cadets, and aerospace education officer. He was a dedicated mentor, teacher, and inspirational leader to both senior members and cadets, truly embodying the core values of the Civil Air Patrol.
In 1968, Maj Knox enlisted in the United States Air Force, beginning an eight-year career of distinguished service. He served three years as an enlisted computer technician, including a tour at Da Nang Air Base during the Vietnam War. In 1972, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant and served five years as a maintenance officer for the Minuteman Intercontinental Ballistic Missile system, rising to the rank of Captain and receiving two USAF Commendation Medals.
A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, May 29, 2026, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Northfield. Visitation will take place at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery on June 9th at 11:00 AM.
