South Dakota Wing Debuts Historical Film
Thanks to a generous donation from the family of Thomas Roberts — South Dakota’s first Wing Commander (pictured) — Wing Historian Maj. Karla West was able to collaborate with 1st Lt. Aaron Giddings, Sioux Falls Squadron Commander, to create a short film using rare footage taken by Roberts in the late 1920s.
This unique video captures scenes from the early days of aviation, including footage of round-engine planes and aerial views of South Dakota from nearly a century ago.
