South Dakota Wing Completes Annual Communications Exercise

Last night, the South Dakota Wing put its communications network to the test during our required annual exercise. Members across the state checked in using VHF nets through as many SDWG repeaters as were available, and every participant successfully received and recorded message traffic.

Civil Air Patrol operates one of the most capable communications systems in the nation, including:

• 500+ HF-ALE base stations

• Nearly 750 non-ALE HF radios + 260 mobile HF units

• 500+ VHF P25 repeaters and thousands of VHF stations

• ~150 low-power portable repeaters for rapid deployment

All systems operate on federal NTIA-compliant frequencies, ensuring seamless interoperability with military and federal partners. Great work to all involved in keeping our emergency communications mission strong.
